The Smoke-Free Mumbai
Campaign held a brain storming meeting to plan further stategy on
tobacco control at Tata Memorial Hospital on 8 January. Drs Shubha
Maudgal & Shital Raval attended the evening and presented CPAA's current
tobacco-control projects. This was followed by the National AFTC
Consultation meet on Tobacco Control. The group met to plan the 2nd
National Tobacco Control Conference. CPAA is member of the organising
committee. Cancer awareness lectures were conducted for corporates, Birla SunLife in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai; for IDBI Fortis, Gitanjali and DG Sanghvi College Mumbai. A lecture was organised in Gujarati for the Dhanera Jain Samaj by Usha and Shital Raval on 10 January. Awareness lectures were delivered in schools at Sion, Juhu, Borivali and Shirpur as a part of our ongoing study to assess the best way to motivate school children to stop smoking and/or not start. CPAA participated in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2010 held on 17 January. Several companies like Kotak Bank, Axis Foundation, Citibank, Nomura, Coral Hub and State Bank of India supported CPAA in the corporate challenge. Noted film actress Tara Sharma participated in the dream run and raised pledges in support of CPAA. Mr. Y.K. Sapru and Shailja Singh were present during the run to cheer participants.
On 30 January a get together for patients and their siblings was organised at Rosemary & Thyme. Around 30 children attended. All the children participated in the games and the drawing competition. Mr.Prasad Panvelkar of Lions Club Prathna Samaj judged the competition.
The Terry Fox run was flagged off on 14 February at Nariman Point, Mumbai by Judith Fox (sister of Terry Fox) and Breeda McClew (Executive Director at Terry Fox). Almost 10,000 school children participated in the annual run, which was followed by a brunch at Trident attended by committee members Piali Syam and Shital Raval. CPAA's long-time patron and well-wisher Soma Vajpayee participated in the Standard Chartered Hongkong Marathon on 28 February. CPAA benefited from the funds raised from the pledges. As part of the Make A Cancer Patient Smile program in Pune, 30 patients were taken for the movie '3 Idiots' on 9 January and 45 patients were taken to see the Marathi movie 'Natrang' on 11 February. CPAA Pune in collaboration with Inlaks and Budhrani Cancer Unit celebrated the World Cancer Day on 4 February. About 80 patients were personally welcomed by the volunteers and hospital staff and were treated with fruits, biscuits and chocolates. |

Children from St. Mary School, Delhi were invited for the Republic Day celebration at the AIIMS Pediatric ward on 27 January. The children sang patriotic songs and presented a skit for the cancer patients. |
